CWU is in high Spirits with Solly Mokoetle Suspension PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 30 August 2010 15:42

The Communication Workers Union welcomes the suspension of the GCEO of the SABC, Mr Solly Mokoetle. We have been raising our concern as CWU of how Solly Mokoetle and Dr Ben Ngubane have been running SABC like an unlicensed establishment.

We also note the allegation made by Solly Mokoetle in his letter accusing some board members of making the SABC an employment agency. We view these allegations from Mr Mokoetle as the last kicks of a dying horse.

CWU is very concerned with a congregation of more than One hundred and twenty (120) General Managers at SABC. We hope that these general managers are not part of the passengers that are concentrating on pleasing Solly Mokoetle while he is destroying our public broadcaster.

We have detected some demagogic tendencies from certain hooligans who are sending SMS’s at SABC saying the SABC Board members must be dissolved and General Secretary of CWU, Cde Gallant Roberts must be recalled from the Union. We have noted that theirs is a lone voice that is out of sync with the rest of the right thinking and objective South Africans, who do not require specialised spectacles to see that the problem at the SABC is its CEO and Chairperson – and now of late, the Head of News who was recently appointed under dubious circumstances and his salary increased abnormally.

CWU Statement on Lifestyle Audit PDF Print E-mail

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) supports the calls by our Federation – Cosatu – on the lifestyle audit of public representatives and leaders.

This call should be understood within the context of an embedded and deep-seated Kebble-ism within our movement which hands out largesse in order to secure their own personal accumulation agendas. This has been further advanced through radical articulation of the progressive clauses of the Freedom Charter and offensive targeted at ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe which is being reinforced by the naked class interests of trying to use the ANC and the State for wealth accumulation and crass materialism.

CWU wants former CEO of Vodacom Alan Knott Craig to Account PDF Print E-mail

Communication Workers Union is very disturbed by the perpetual looting of Vodacom money by the former CEO, Alan knott Craig.  We really don’t understand why a person can acquire a lot of money while some members of our organisation are exploited by labour brokers in that field.  It is very immoral for the former Vodacom CEO to exploit our members at the expense of enriching himself and perpetually looting the public money for his personal interest.

1.1  SABC Board and CEO

CWU welcome the new board of the SABC led by its Chairperson and the confirmation of acceptance of the SABC CEO. We have seen some conspiracy tendencies by some nameless people who want to destabilize our SABC by spreading baseless rumours. We want to warn anyone exercising these “Mbeki Era tendencies” with the intend to cause the Public Broadcaster any kind of harm, that they will be exposed and be faced with the full might of the workers. CWU want to assure the public and the new SABC Board that it will work closely with the new leadership of the SABC to make sure that workers interests are esteemed.

CWU calls for a Commission of enquiry on Vodacom PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 February 2010 10:43

Communication Workers Union is disgusted about reports of former Chief Executive Officer, Alan Knott-Craig of Vodacom on gross management of funds in that institution.  We call the upper echelons of Vodacom to release the KPMG Forensic report to be publicised and been seen by the public. We will never allow anyone to use our public funds for his personal interest.
